Pure idyll! far away from everyday life
The valleys of the Alps run like veins through the majestic mountain world and lend depth and character to the landscape. Whether wide and gentle or deep and dramatic, each valley tells its own story and reveals the blueprint of this mountain range. These patterns continue in Kleinwalsertal. Beyond Baad, the Duratal, Derratal and Bärgunttal valleys fan out. At Mittelberg, the Gemsteltal and Wildental valleys flow into the former glacial valley of the Breitach. The Schwarzwassertal valley, which stretches between Ifen and Heuberg, is the largest of the secluded mountain valleys at six kilometres in length. Those who set out on the trail immediately sense that these valleys are alive and just waiting to be discovered.
From green valleys to striking mountains
Those who are enthusiastic about the subtleties of flora and fauna can embark on a fascinating journey of discovery here. The region also reveals itself as a geological treasure trove that tells a story with every rock formation and every valley: From the striking Schrattenkalk in the Ifen area to flysch rock. On hikes, you can move between the European and African continental plates. The peaks of the Widderstein and the Elfer with their rough rock, for example, can be recognized as representatives of the African plate. A real highlight is the Ifen European nature reserve in the Schwarzwassertal valley. This extraordinary karst landscape is a fascinating mosaic of alpine vegetation and biodiversity. In summer, the meadows are transformed into a sea of alpine roses and gentian. The rocky heights are home to ibex and marmots, while the forests are home to capercaillie, badgers and woodpeckers. The majestic golden eagle soars above it all. Here, nature is not just something to marvel at, but also a story. Visible and tangible.
