Picturesque ambience Pure nature in the Duratal Valley

Past rippling waterfalls, over small bridges and up to lofty heights. The Duratal Valley, which begins behind Baad at the confluence of the Durabach and Derrabach rivers, extends to the mountain range between Unspitze and Grünhorn. The green summit of the Grünhorn dominates the landscape and attracts numerous ski tourers, especially in winter. Surrounded by steep alpine slopes and natural mountain landscapes, the Duratal Valley is not just a picturesque valley. The Ochsenhoferscharte is also an important hub for numerous hikes. From here and through the valley, a variety of paths lead to some of the most popular and scenic tours in Kleinwalsertal.

Duratal valley at a glance

On the way through the Duratal valley, hikers pass the Starzelalpe and the two Dura Alps. The Innerer Stierhof alp is traditionally farmed and offers regional products - an insider tip for a snack with the best view. The path from Baad up into the valley winds its way over small bridges, past bubbling waterfalls and leads hikers through almost undisturbed nature. You usually only meet hikers from Schwarzwassertal valley and Walmendingerhorn further up.

A particular highlight is the 2,039-metre-high Grünhorn, which is not only one of the most popular destinations in summer. The Grasberg is also a popular destination for ski tourers in winter, who appreciate the untouched slopes and the seclusion of the valley. Those who opt for the ski touring route can experience unforgettable descents on the wide slopes of the Grünhorn.

For hikers, the Starzeljoch also offers an exciting challenge. The airy ridge connects the Dura Valley with the neighboring valleys. The Ochsenhoferscharte leads into another neighboring valley. From here, you can head into the Schwarzwassertal valley or over the Ochsenhoferköpfe to the Walmendingerhorn.

Surrounded by steep slopes and the striking Grünhorn, a double-peaked grass mountain, the valley impresses with its rich flora. The Grünhorn slopes down to the north-east with steep walls and rises above the Steinmandl to the north and the Hochstarzel to the south. The dominant flysch rock contributes to the biodiversity that makes the valley so unique. In winter, the Dura Valley transforms into a tranquil winter landscape that offers ideal conditions for experienced ski tourers in particular. The designated route recommendations take account of sensitive areas in order to preserve the valuable habitats of animals and plants.
