Mittelberg lies at 1,215 metres and opens the door to the higher peaks of the Kleinwalsertal. Surrounded by slopes and mountains, the village with just under 1,400 inhabitants offers the perfect mix of tranquillity and mountain adventures.

The parish church of St. Jodok, the oldest church tower in Kleinwalsertal, is enthroned at the highest point of Mittelberg. The Lourdes Chapel is very close by. The Walmendingerhornbahn and the Zafernalift take you quickly into the mountains, ideal for hiking and skiing.

From the village, you can reach the Wildental or Gemsteltal valleys via hiking trails. Both valleys invite you to explore their impressive landscapes, numerous huts and unspoiled nature. For cross-country skiers, the Steinbockloipe trail winds its way through the valley in winter. It leads in classic and skating style through snow-covered forests and up to the mountain village of Baad. There are also several toboggan runs in Mittelberg.

Thanks to its central location in the valley, you can quickly reach all other parts of Kleinwalsertal from Mittelberg. You can easily reach the other mountain cable cars and hiking destinations by Walserbus or lift.


WHAT HAPPENED SO FAR MITTELBERG – A LOOK BACK

The first settlers came over the Hochalp Pass to Baad and Bödmen. Mittelberg was the first village to be settled and shaped the name of the entire municipality. Mittelberg is also the village with the most and best-preserved architectural remains in the Kleinwalsertal. The Walser culture trail leads you to the stories surrounding atonement crosses, traditional Walser houses and the Uusrüafschtei. The most important historical site in Mittelberg is the parish church of St. Jodok, whose old church tower from the 14th century still characterizes the village today. Directly behind the church is the Lourdes Chapel, which was built in 1897. In 1966, the Walmendingerhornbahn cable car opened and made Mittelberg an important destination for winter sports enthusiasts.
