The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and best of all – your vacation in Kleinwalsertal is coming up! But after the winter break and all that sitting in your home office, are your bones tired and rusty? We have the perfect hikes for you to get your legs moving again and get your vacation off to a relaxed start. Just don't overdo it to start with...

1. CIRCULAR WALK GEMSTEL View & enjoyment

The first warm-up hike leads into the Gemsteltal valley. You start at the “Gemse” bus stop between Mittelberg and Baad - this is very easy to reach with the Walserbus line 1. In the direction of Baad, the Gemstelweg trail turns off to the left. Passing meadows, the path leads over the Breitach and along it for a short distance to the point where the Gemstelbach and Breitach streams meet. From there, there is only one destination: into the Gemsteltal valley! The view almost takes your breath away and with the Gemstelbach stream on your left, it's a very smooth run. After about half an hour you reach the natural hut Gemstel-Schönesboden. Can you already smell the organic ham from the smoker? While enjoying an organic snack, you can watch not only cows but also horses and goats grazing. After a break in the sun with a view of the Kleiner Widderstein, the Bärenkopf and the Walmendingerhorn, continue towards the end of the valley to the Hintere Gemstelhütte. On the way back is Bernhard's Gemstelhütte – on its terrace you can admire the valley again from the other side - and enjoy a delicious Kaiserschmarrn! Well-fed, it's then a leisurely walk back to Mittelberg.

2. hike into the Bärgunttal valley Pure idyll

If you're looking for an idyllic hike with wonderful places to stop for refreshments, the Bärgunttal valley is just the place for you. The tour is approx. 4.8 km long and covers a relaxed 192 meters in altitude. The starting point is the hiking parking lot in Baad. You can reach it by taking the Walserbus line 1 to the “Baad” bus stop. Start over the Breitach bridge: From here, the first destination is already signposted - the Bärgunthütte. The well-gravelled path leads along the Bärguntbach stream with a fantastic mountain panorama of the Großer and Kleiner Widderstein. After about 30 minutes, the Bärgunt hut comes into view. The hut at 1,408 m has been run by Sabine Ott for years. She lovingly prepares snacks and other food, mostly from her own production, to satisfy both small and large appetites - and you can enjoy the sunshine outside on the terrace. On the way back, after the fork below the hut, take the panoramic trail on the other side of the valley back to Baad. Halfway along the route, the path leads you to the second gourmet hut on the tour: Alpe Widderstein. In a quiet atmosphere, chocolate milk, homemade cakes and fresh thirst quenchers invite you to have a chat with the landlady Tini.

3. FROM THE AUENHÜTTE TO THE MELKÖDE The Ifen in view

The starting point for this fabulous hike is the Auenhütte at the Ifenbahn. The Auenhütte can be reached with the Walserbus line 5 from Riezlern. At the Ifenbahn, keep right to the hiking trail. After about 10 minutes, you will reach the artificial snowmaking pond - also known as Herzsee. The clear water makes the Herzsee glisten particularly blue in the sunlight. The trail takes you further south through the Rüchewald forest. Here, the landscape is characterized by open, wild and romantic forests and boulders that broke off from the Hoher Ifen many years ago. At the edge of the forest, you are greeted by green slopes and a colorful variety of plants. On the plain, the Alpe Melköde comes into view and invites you to stop for a break. Try the snack with home-made cheese - or are you more of a fresh yogurt kind of person? The milk literally comes straight from the pasture. After a quick snapshot of the impressive view of the Hoher Ifen and a short detour to the impressive waterfall, you have the choice of turning back or continuing on to the Schwarzwasserhütte.

4. Breitach circular route Refreshing hike

Even on hot days, this tour is refreshing in the truest sense of the word! Equipped with a good mood and a snack from our farm stores and direct marketers, you start at the tourist office in Hirschegg.  Take the Dürenbodenstraße road down to the Breitach towards Mittelberg, where you are greeted by the sound of rushing water. Surrounded by lush green trees, the cool water and with a view of the Walser mountain panorama, you can take a leisurely stroll along the Breitach. The Güütschle square with its wide benches is ideal for a short break. Close your eyes and let nature take its full effect on you or enjoy a snack you have brought with you. After your refreshing break, walk on to the Wildental bridge and cross it. Follow the Wildental road past meadows and forest strips with wonderful views of Mittelberg. After approx. 20 minutes you reach the junction at the Wildental lift, where you keep left to get back to the Breitach. The trail then leads straight on back to Hirschegg.

5. circular hike Wildental valley Pure nature

At 8.3 km, the circular hike in the Wildental valley is a slightly longer, but all the more idyllic tour - perfect for the second day of hiking. The starting point is in the village center of Mittelberg. With a view of the Schafalpköpfe, you follow the Höflerweg trail over the Höflerbrücke bridge directly into the Höfle district, from where you reach the Wildental valley. Surrounded by lush pastures and flower-filled meadows, you walk towards the mountain front. The Innere Wiesalpe soon comes into view, where the Köll family takes care of your physical well-being. You can fully enjoy the view of the Schafalpköpfe on the cozy terrace. Afterwards, you can either turn back or hike a little further to the Fluchtalpe. The Wildenbach stream accompanies you on your way there. A little further behind the Fluchtalpe, you will come to a waterfall that cascades down from the rock at the end of the valley - pure natural wonder! Do you need to let the sight sink in first? The Fluchtalpe is a wonderful place to linger and watch the cows graze. Then make your way back, this time turning left at the fork below the Innere Wiesalpe and taking the path towards Schwendlestraße past the Untere Wiesalp with wonderful views of Mittelberg.
