Refreshments on the "Small border traffic" bike tour
11.09.2017

Cross the German-Austrian border twice by mountain bike, from Riezlern to Oberstdorf and back again - the 25-kilometre “Kleiner Grenzverkehr” tour is not only great fun, it also makes you really hungry. Reason enough to know the best mountain huts, alps and inns along the route in advance. Our tips for the tour:
Guesthouse "Bergblick Außerschwende"
Where the entrance to the Schwende cross-country ski trail is in winter, you have a view of the Fellhorn and Kanzelwand in summer. The bright sunshades on the terrace invite you to stop for a bite to eat from afar. The inn serves hot meals at lunchtime and in the evening, and cakes and hearty snacks for hungry cyclists during the day.

In the Bergstüble above Riezlern, things can get pretty lively. Thanks to the children's playground and live music, there is rocking, swaying and sometimes even a barbecue. It is definitely the right place for bikers to fortify themselves for the ascent to the Söllereck.
More Informationhut "Mittelalp"
If you want to know why the Mittelalp hut is so highly recommended, there's only one thing to do: stop in! Only regional products from the valley are served here. Since they even make their own cheese on the alp, the cheese and dairy products have to travel particularly short distances. Once a week you can even look over Gerhard Hilbrand's shoulder as he makes the cheese. There is also a bike service station here.

Alp Osterberg
Mountain farmers have been farming the surrounding pastures here, on the border between Germany and Kleinwalsertal, since the 17th century. With so much experience, it goes without saying that home-made food and specialties of local quality are served as a snack. And with the view of the Oberstdorf and Walser mountains, everything tastes twice as good anyway...

This lovely detour is located in the middle of the high moor on the Hörnle Pass. If you have a green thumb or a curious nose, you should definitely sniff your way through the densely overgrown alpine herb garden below the house. More than 400 herbs are grown and cultivated here by hostess Christine Keck. And cooked into delicious dishes and desserts by son Gregor. There is also a bike service station here.
