Circular hike through the Breitachklamm

The hike through this unique natural monument between Oberstdorf and the Kleinwalsertal is one of the most popular attractions in the region. The Breitachklamm is the deepest rock gorge in Central Europe and a unique natural experience for young and old.

This hike starts from the Walserschanz and leads a short distance along the country road down the valley to a signposted junction. The hiking trail leads down across an open field and through the forest to the Zwingsteg, where the gorge is crossed at a narrow point. If the shortest way to the entrance of the Breitachklamm is chosen, here a hiking trail branches off and leads down through a shady forest to the entrance of the Breitachklamm. The slightly longer circular hike described here leads in a curve via the Sesselweg past the Alpe Dornach and the Klamm Chapel to the ticket office at the entrance of the Breitachklamm. A very walkable and secured path then leads through the gorge, offering unique views into the gorge, which has been carved by the waters of the Breitach over thousands of years; always accompanied by the roaring of the flowing water. Over the Zwingsteg it goes back onto the already known hiking trail and back to the Walserschanz.
