Mountain route over the Ochsenhofer Köpfe to the Grünhorn
Tour description
From the Walmendingerhornbahn mountain station, after a short descent on a gravel path, a path leads to the right onto the ridge. Alternating with short ascents and descents, it goes over a partly quite narrow and somewhat exposed ridge to the summit of the Muttelbergkopf and the Ochsenhofer Köpfe. Surefootedness and a head for heights are required for this route. Along the whole way, there are very beautiful panoramic views. At the Ochsenhofer Scharte, the path continues straight ahead. Here, there are two possible variants to reach the summit of the Grünhorn: either directly steeply ascending to the summit or somewhat flatter in a curve below the summit via the short southern ridge to the summit. The descent takes place via the southern ridge, straight to the Starzeljoch, and at the crossroads descending left to the Starzelalpe (unmanaged). The path leads into the forest and then down tight switchbacks into the densely wooded Duratal. From there on a broader alpine path down the valley to Baad.
The route can also be started from Baad; in that case, the elevation gain must be made on the ascent. Then the Walmendingerhornbahn is used as descent assistance.

The 2039 meter high Grünhorn is an extremely popular ski touring mountain in winter - in summer, the Duratal and the summit of the Grünhorn are usually much quieter. From the summit, in good visibility, you can see over Lake Constance up to the peaks of the high Swiss mountains.
