Vacations in the mountains - a highlight for the whole family in summer! Explore nature, wave to cows and goats from the edge of the path or climb around a bit while the adults enjoy the views and vastness of the Walser mountains. Here are five family-friendly hikes in Kleinwalsertal.

The great naturalist adventures 1. discover nature through play

Attention young explorers! Packed into an exciting story about the marmot friends Burmi and Burmina, the great naturalist adventure invites families to playfully discover and understand nature. On several hikes through Kleinwalsertal, young and old learn about the connections between nature and its inhabitants, perfect for children from the age of six.  Each expedition comes with a matching explorer's book with tricky tasks and puzzles (available from the tourist office in Hirschegg). Background information and tips for answering the questions are provided by explorer stations that can be found along the hiking routes, as well as audio plays with exciting stories. It's not just the kids who have fun solving the tasks - adults also learn a lot about nature in Kleinwalsertal. Note: Only available in German!

the Burmiweg trail 2. play & delicious barbecue

The Burmiweg runs between Riezlern and Hirschegg along the Breitach river and offers numerous play and climbing opportunities. At nine play stations, little Burmi fans can let their imaginations run wild and test their climbing skills on the wooden scaffolding. The path leads quietly and in the shade of the trees along the Breitach and invites you to linger. In summer, the Breitach offers a refreshing cool-down.

And when your legs are tired from all the playing, climbing and romping, the barbecue area by the sulphur spring is the perfect place for a long break.

Hikes in the side valleys 3. tours for beginners and intermediates

The most beautiful side valleys of the Kleinwalsertal can also be reached with a large-wheeled baby carriage or buggy: on the family-friendly circular hikes in the Gemsteltal or Wildental valleys, you will be in the middle of nature after just a few meters on easily accessible paths. With the surrounding mountain peaks always in view, you make your way to the next refreshment stop. A glass of fresh milk, a slice of cake or a hearty cheese sandwich will invigorate tired children's legs and whet their appetite for the next stage of the hike or the way back. The tours to Alpe Melköde in Schwarzwassertal valley or Bärgunttal valley are also suitable for all-terrain baby carriages. Fabulous views of the Walser mountains, lush green meadows and colorful flowers are the reward for the strenuous pushing passages on somewhat steeper sections.

rental of mountain buggies and carriers 4. hike with riddle fun

Where is the Haspelwaldmändle? It is said to live in the forest of the same name below the Walmendingerhorn. Families pass six stations along the way. If you read them carefully, you can easily answer the quiz at the end of the trail. And with the correct answer, attentive hikers will receive a small surprise at the Bühlalpe (only during opening hours). The quiz and the hike are suitable for children aged 4 and over. Please note that the trail is not suitable for baby carriages.

Burmiwasser at the Kanzelwand 5. follow the course of the water

The fact that water magically attracts children is something of a law of nature. An entire adventure trail dedicated to this element comes very close to seventh heaven. From the Kanzelwand mountain station to the Riezler Alpsee lake, the Burmiwasser adventure trail makes children's hearts beat faster. The stepped watercourse, which is modeled on the natural course of mountain streams, invites you to experiment with pools, sluices and water wheels. A change of clothes should definitely be planned for here!
